Tanzania’s secret in the jungle

Tanzania offers wonderful safaris ensuring a perfect Tanzania Safari Holiday. Fundamentally a fly-in safari because of the long distances and bad roads, the southern and western safari areas are, as a result, pristine and untouched, making for a truly wild African safari. Southern Tanzania is considered Africa’s heart of tourism.

You will land in Kigoma and take a boat across Africa’s deepest Lake Tanganyika from where you head to the national parks of Gombe and Mahale.

Gombe Stream National Park is renowned for chimpanzees, no very common anywhere. It is a low key reserve but with a very high international profile as a chimpanzee research area.

On the other hand, Mahale National Park is set against the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, in a place characterized by exotic and isolated beauty.

It is here that, the clear waters of Lake Tanganyika lap against the sandy deserted shores of Mahale while the forested peaks rise up in the distance and the area is home to the largest number of primate species of any Tanzanian park including more than1000 chimpanzees.

You will absolutely enjoy tracking chimpanzees and various primates through these deep forests and the experience is quickly becoming a world favorite wildlife activity.

Ruaha National Park boasts wildlife populations as grand as they are diverse. It was exploited by poachers in the 1980s, but Ruaha has quickly re-established itself as one of Africa’s best wilderness areas anywhere and it’s no wonder that Ruaha and Selous are considered to offer the best game viewing in the whole of Africa.

Selous game reserve is considered by many to be the future flagship of southern Tanzanian safari travel. A vacation in Selous will live to be the best in your memory.

Ruaha Wildlife Safari Tanzania

Ruaha Wildlife Safari

Wildlife of Ruaha
The wildlife at Ruaha National Park can be defined in two words of wild and beautiful. According to people in the tourism industry, the southern parks and reserves of Tanzania such as Selous Game reserve are for seasoned wildlife watchers as they are not plains game. In other words, one needs to really drive in search for the animals and this is due to the bush and Miombo vegetation. The park is said to be having animals like African hunting dogs (painted dogs), the lesser and greater Kudu, the silver back Jackal, pelicans lions, plus Zebras. Of recent, the Tanzania park authorities authorized the ability for visitors to undertake an all day walking safari which is assisted by an armed ranger that accompanies the trip, this factor being an additional to the game viewing vehicle.

The all day walking safari experience enables visitors to explore the Africa wildlife on foot as they continue creating a personalized experience of sporting animals tht norally shy away from humans for example the leopards.

There are other unique animals visitors to Ruaha should look out for other tant positive popular ones of zebras, leopards, lions, elephants and hyenas. The uniqie animals to be boked up for are mainly the African huntitn dog and lesser and greater kudu as tey are going to be discussed further below;

The African hunting Dog: because of their beautiful mixed back, white brown and mustard colors, they are also called the painted dog and although some may call them wild dogs as well, this is a wrong reference. They always appear passive in nature, however, they will have to reach if bothered, harassed and disturbed. It is important still to note that there is no relationship between the common domesticated dog (dogs kept at home) and the African dog. Together in packs of between 6 and 20 they live and are moving form one place to another. In fact, they are noted be spend most of their time in the year moving (nine months) and the only 3 remaining months is when they reduce their movement to a home range. The other impressive information about this king of a dog is that during the early century they were considered to be wild animals who could attack farm animals and birds and hence so harmful to livestock keeping and therefore this factor led to the unfair killing of many of them viewing these animals in action is so hard, and so if one gets the opportunity tosees them one should be considred very lucky.

Lesser and greater Kude: these have got the size of the body that make them be appropriately reffered to. They are normally sight in Ruaha National park and spoting them there is easy, however they tend to be shy and affected by the approach of anything that they feel may be of threat. This beautiful animal which is fight easily like the young male impalas who normally fight using their horns. Taking these animals’ photograph will bring out a prized picture because of their beautiful spirated horns and white stripes.

Ruaha River

River of Ruaha
Ruaha national park has got two main types of rivers that is to say, flowing permanent arteries of the Ruaha river and its seasonal tributaries and rivers of white sand which are also referred to as sand river during the dry season. It is said that a sand river appears to be a unique concept as to many visiting Ruaha National Park.

Te grate Ruaha rives runs on the southern section of Ruaha National park and continues to flow eastwards and joining Njombe and Rufiji river, and dumping itself on the Indian ocean.

Mdonya and Mwagusi sand river are the two main sand rivers of Ruaha National Park. These two rivers act as inlets carrying rainwater into the Ruaha during the rainy season despite the fact that they are white sand beds and carry no fishes. The river has no water on the surface during the dry season, however there is building of water close to the surface of the river bed which is promoted by the presence of granite mineral, that collects the water together. The elephants are normally viewed by the guides as they keep on digging up on the sand rivers trying to get the water. It is very common still to view many other animals on the sand river.

Ruaha River lodge

Ruaha River lodge, which is believed to be the oldest lodge that Ruaha National Park has. Peter and Sarah Fox manager this lodge, no wonder therefore, in the past no years their family has been visiting the area. The lodge has got a stunning scenery, nearby bods which are filled with crocodiles and hippos plus rapids over which the it looks always have game drinking.

The lodge is build on and around the rocky out crops that surrounds the river bank. The lodge is divided up into two distinct camps each with their own facilities and dining areas tht makes each of them feel personal. The lodge therefore has the new camp which has got ten bandas and the old, original camp which has got eight bungalows.

These bandas which are large have got rooms of good standards with flush toilets, electricity and hot water. They are make of stone and thatch all with a good veranda and plenty of comfy seats.
High on a rocky out crop or on the river bank is where meals are served, the food is wholesome and has a lot of fresh vegetables offered by the family farm in Iringa.

The lodge concentrates more on open-sided game drives which are normally accompanied by a guide and tracker from the local community, although walking Safaris are possible too.

The rive lodge is highly recommended, not because it is not comparable to the more expensive lodges of Jongomero and Mwangusi, but because of its good value for money.
